Eastern Wayne Wins 3-A Battle in Eastern North Carolina

Eastern Wayne, coached by Craig Hassell, downed Wilson Fike, coached by Lee Matthews, by a score of 8-1 in the season opener for both teams on Monday, March 1st in a battle between two top eastern North Carolina 3-A teams.    Both squads received several votes for the top 10 in the NCHSTCA preseason poll.   Freshman Chaz Fitzpatrick stepped in for the injured Russell Turner at number one and came away with a big win for the Warriors.  "F
"Fitzpatrick is a very talented freshman with a tremendous forehand.   Nick struggled trying to get settled in against him,"  said Coach Matthews.   Kyle Lewis and John Flinn posted the only win of the day for the Golden Demons at number one doubles.   "This was a good match for us starting the year. Although we lost the match, we were much more competitive with Eastern Wayne this year compared to last year," said Fike head coach Lee Matthews.
