Intro-

Donald Clark thanks attendees.  Lindsey Linker not able to attend due to employment conflict.  Len Teague also not able to attend.

Treasury Report-

Rodgman presents updated budget report.  One check written to Donald Clark to pay for one year renewal of website since the last NCHSTCA meeting in Pinehurst.  Rodgman thanks the effort of Coach Teague on the 501 C3 card sent in for tax purposes.

Donald Clark had a cash donation from a coach and in turn wrote a check from his personal account to the NCHSTCA

Hazen asks about Team Connection with donation, and Clark informs board that he pays for all certificates from his personal account and sends bill to Team Connection for reimbursements.  TC reimburses for certificate purchases and postage to mail to schools

Clark informs the board that Coach Brian Tate is not able to attend the meeting as he was informed from an email this morning.  Coach Tate has suggested to the board that the NCHSTCA find another 2A representative since he has not been able to attend the past few meetings.  Hazen suggests that we have a female member due to lack of gender diversity on the board.

Kelly Gaines- USTA

Kelly states that the NC UTSA will be close to donating $10,000 to high school tennis this year.  They fund the championships, licensing, websites, etc.

She mentioned dynasties in the room in conjunction with the new History book of NC Tennis, written by Carlisle Lewis in the late 1970’s Known as the Green Book.  The foundation has decided to update the book with Tim Newnan.  Played at Stanford and lives in Chapel Hill.  His company writes books for groups, foundations, etc in historical form.  She gives out flyers on personalized Dust Jackets for high schools.  NC USTA is raising funds to help pay for the cost of publishing the book.  Proceeds will continue to go to fund junior tennis.

NCCA workshop at UNCG.  Kelly gives out agenda for the day, which will be July 20, 2011.  Tim Wilkison who is a teaching pro in Charlotte and Head Coach at Charlotte Latin will be doing on court instruction in the morning.  Michael Leonard from Elon University is on stand by if Tim cannot attend.

Carolyn will speak at 10:00 and My Tennis Network will speak at 11:00

After lunch there will be a coach panel of successful coaches for new coaches at 2:00 there is a nutrition/conditioning panel and at 3:00 will be the NCHSTCA meeting.  Donald asks for suggestions for the 3:00 meeting and if anyone has any suggestions for Kelly for the panels.  Issue is raised on how late coaches arrive from the coliseum to UNCG due to getting coaching cards.

Kelly states the NC USTA really believes and supports My Tennis Network and thinks it will be very beneficial to high schools.  The foundation did not want to just hand over money to the group, but have authorized up to 70 licenses to schools to use My tennis network.  Tennis Link has made it difficult for My Tennis Network.

Donald mentions that the Big East 3A Conference and the 2A Eastern Plains Conference did a trial run with the program.  Donald felt it went well and while there were some minor problems, he feels it is a good program.  He has done several conference calls with them and anticipates player rankings to be rolled out this fall.  Kelly states that the licenses she pays for are for schools that cannot afford it on their own.  Schools need to show financial need.  NC USTA needs to be smart with how they give out their money in accordance with their C3 licenses.  They will not just fund groups, but will try to continue to support groups like My Tennis Network and HS Tennis Coach Website

NC USTA has put together a comprehensive plan to widen the base of kids coming into tennis.  Quick start is a format, but working hard for the 10 and under groups.  They have zeroed in on 4 areas (Triad, Charlotte, Triangle, and Wilmington) and created jamborees for kids to play JTT (10 and under).  Now expanding to all ages, and kids can be selected to area camps.  Jamborees, area camps and now a state camp at Cary Tennis Park.  24 (10 and under) and 24 (8 and under).  Just completed a state camps for 12’s and 14’s at Cary Tennis Complex.  14’s-18’s camp during Winston Salem Open for the weekend, including parent education.  Kelly suggests that coaches talk to Middle Schools and Elementary Schools to get kids to play JTT in addition to individual tournament tennis.  Anything the NC USTA can do to get the word out and expand tennis the group is trying to do.  They are looking for suggestions from people in helping promote the sport.

Wake Forest will be hosting a High School Girls Team Day on 8/23 from 10-11 am at the indoor center.  Free with paid ticket to Session 6.

USTA has facility assistance grant ($100,000) to help improve and refurbish the courts (there are some catches like having to do Quick Start and have a public use agreement with the city).

Louise Fahys from My Tennis Network (MTN)

Louise has been in the software business since 2005 and has a rising freshman son that will be playing this upcoming year.

She mentions the 2 trial conferences and with that trail has developed a ranking system for players off that data.

NCHS.Mytennisnetwork.com was the beta site set up this spring for the 2 conferences.

She would like for sponsorship for the site and a partnership with the NCHSTCA should benefit both groups.

Some goals are to support growth of HS Tennis, complete team profiles, featured articles, online scheduling and results.  Acknowledge the entire student athletes on the team.  Position high school tennis in college recruitment.

User input for match results is very easy to use with just drop down menus.  MTN is working on a subscribe option for RSS feed for papers to send scores.

A Player ranking with schools not involved is a concern on how to enter them.

Star Rankings, Tennis Recruiting Rankings, USTA Rankings became a major discussion.

Trial Teams ended the season at the end of the regular season.  No playoff or individual tournament info was entered.

MTN would like to add a coaches message board behind a secure login

NCHSTCA would have the ability to add a banner or ad to increase the revenue stream for both groups

Lunch Break

Fisher suggests adding section to Dual Team Sheet for substituting players that are not listed in doubles lineup.  Carolyn wants to keep it the same, stating a lower seeded player is only one allowed to sub in.

Clark asks that Rules and Regulation Section of the NCHSAA Handbook be applied to Regular Season instead of just Playoffs

Carolyn works on changing the format of the handbook and moving sections.  Creating a rules and regulations section and a playoff section since some have to do different rules do to conferences due to their own set of rules

Carolyn asks for suggestions to the singles sheet and doubles sheet.  Minor changes are made by dropping a column here and there, changing the word Rank to Flight

Carolyn confers on who is hosting regionals for the fall
