NCHSTCA Summer Meeting Notes
Zoom Meeting Friday, June 19, 2020
Present-Tim Medlin, Steven Rochkind, Ken Hazen, Andrew Tuttle, Pam Beecher, Nick Theuner, Vic Ramsey
President Donald Clark called the meeting to order and welcomed all board members.
A treasurer’s report will be sent to the board members as soon as the new treasurer is voted in this month.
Motion to accept secretary’s meeting-Coach Theuner, Coach Tuttle (second) Unanimous to accept.
Motion to nominate Andrew Tuttle as president-Coach Theuner (motion), Coach Rochkind (second) Unanimous to accept.
Motion to nominate Donald Clark at vice-president-Coach Theuner (motion), Pam Beecher (second)
Unanimous to accept.
1) Will we play high school tennis next year?
2) Steve Rochkind
A. update on current protocols at Durham Riverside High School
1) ticket to play required before voluntary practice in the summer
2) each player can only touch one can of tennis balls
3) governor to make decision on July 1 about status of tennis for the fall
4) adult leagues are beginning in late June
3) Pam Beecher
A. our board needs to speak up in support of high school tennis for next year
4) Vic Ramsey
A. USTA has posted Safe to Play return guidelines
B. board could produce a guideline for returning to high school play to NCHSAA
C. need to take a big bus everywhere with windows open
D. if we lose the fall season, is it possible to play girls and boys in the spring?
E. has anyone heard if schools will restrict the distance that teams are allowed to travel for a match
F. teams should be allowed nine weeks for a regular season regardless of the dates for regionals and state tournament
G. if everyone doesn’t have tennis this fall, then maybe this might be a good time to try to the “everybody plays” playoffs
H. UTR allows results to be put in right during the match

A. NCHSAA is probably not going to make special arrangements for one sport
B. we should agree to new protocols in order to be able to play
C. will there be a statewide decision on whether to play or will it be left open to particular counties

A. new protocols are being used already in tournament tennis and Junior Team Tennis which are resuming this week
B. there is some discussion about moving football to spring
7) Andrew Tuttle
A. NFHS has published sport-specific guidelines
B. length of season needs to be restored to previous seasons; continued shortening of seasons is hurting the game
8) Ken Hazen
A. what about doubles?
B. what can we do to convince schools to keep playing tennis?
9) Nick Theuner
A. where are we on Coach Ramsey’s “everyone in the state playoffs?”
10) Donald Clark
A. a new system is being proposed to work on stacking problems that our board will be asked to provide input on in the future
B. UTR is still under discussion with NCHSAA
Andrew Tuttle, Steven Rochkind, and Vic Ramsey agreed to work on a set of guidelines to send to the NCHSAA for returning to high school tennis play.
Motion to nominate Tim Medlin as 2-A representative-Coach Theuner (motion), Jon Huffman (second) Unanimous to accept.
Motion to nominate Vic Ramsey as treasurer-Coach Rochkind (motion) Jon Huffman (second) Unanimous to accept.
