Tennis Tidbits (2010)

*Mooresville High School, coached by Tim Smith, won the I-Meck Conference championship with a 7-2 victory over Hough on Thursday, October 2nd.   This was the school's first league title in women's tennis since 1996.

*Ayden-Grifton, coached by Will Tyer, wrapped up the 2010 Carolina Conference women's tennis regular season championship by sweeping a doubleheader from North Duplin on Thursday, October 7th.   The Lady Chargers improved to 7-0 in league play with the win and 8-3 overall.


*Swansboro, coached by Jim Sheehan, wrapped up the East Central Conference regular season championship with a 5-4 victory over East Duplin on Tuesday, October 5th.  The Lady Pirates improved to 11-0 in the league and 18-0 overall with the victory.

*The second playoff spot in the Big East Conference will be on the line on Monday, October 4th when two old rivals meet in Wilson.   Wilson Fike, coached by Lee Matthews, plays host to Rocky Mount, coached by Barry Nethercutt.   Fike won the first meeting.

*James Sonier is the new women's tennis coach at Greensboro Smith High School.


*Draughn High School, coached by Chris Cozort, is off to a great start this season.   The Lady Wildcats improved to 6-2 overall with a win over West Caldwell on Thursday.

*John Orr is the new women's tennis coach at Rutherford-Spindale Central High School.


*Jason Allen is the new men's and women's tennis coach at Greensboro Page High School.


*Abby LaRue is the new women's tennis coach at Durham School of the Arts.


*Northeastern High School defeated Edenton Holmes High School 7-2 on Thursday, September 2nd, ending the Lady Aces' 122 match league winning streak in the Northeastern Conference.
