*Southwest Edgecombe's Mark McKenzie, the team's number two seed, won the Most Improved Award in tennis and soccer this year.
*Mount Airy High School senior Merry Kessler won the Presidential Scholarship to attend Campbell University.
*Haleigh Morgus of Cary Academy has been named the 2012 Raleigh News and Observer High School Women's Tennis Player of the Year.
*Tarboro High School's Ley Futrell won the Coach's Award for the 2012 Tarboro High School men's tennis team. He also won the Eastern Plains Conference Exhibition King Tournament in April.
*Brent Darden of Greene Central High School, a 2005 doubles 2-A state champion, is now Dr. Darden after graduating from Campbell University and passing the pharmacy exam.
*Tarboro High School men's and women's tennis coach Billy Strother has resigned after 10 years at the school. He will be the new athletic director at C.B. Martin Middle School.
*Eric Greene of Western Alamance High School has been named the Mid-State Conference 2012 Men's Tennis Player of the Year.
*The 2012 North Carolina Coaches Association tennis clinic will be held on Wednesday, July 18th at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The clinic will begin at 9:00 a.m. Stay tuned to our web site for more details!
