Clarification on New Doubles Rule

04/11/2010 04:00

After several inquiries from NCHSTCA coaches, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association has issued a clarification on the new doubles rule.   Any player who is not in the top six for singles will be considered as a "7" for the purpose of the mathematical formula for determining doubles teams.   All coaches are reminded that a doubles team (when the numbers of the singles players are added together) must be equal to or less than the team behind that team in the lineup.   A team would be allowed to play 2-3 at number one and 1-4 at number two because they both equal to five, for example.   Number one players are not allowed to play number three doubles regardless of the math, though.
