Greene Central Returns Four Starters

08/12/2017 10:17

Greene Central High School, coached by Tim Medlin, returns four starters from the 2016 squad that went 14-4 and lost in the second round of the state playoffs to eventual state finalist North Carolina School of Science and Math.

The top graduation loss was number one Peyton Beaman, last year's Eastern Carolina Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, who will be playing at Meredith College this fall.   Other losses included number three Macy Murphy and Carolina Radford, who played number three doubles.

The Lady Rams return seniors Taylor Williams, Madison Tingen, and Taylor Hill and welcome freshmen Hinson Britt and Kaylee Tucker.

Coach Medlin is entering his fourth season at Greene Central and has compiled an overall record of 47-15.

"The Lady Rams return plenty of experience and a penchant for winning, as they seek their 24th straight conference championship.  Favorites or not, the next generation will have to step up and perform big to replace graduating seniors that won over 100 matches and occupied all three doubles spots," said Coach Medlin.

Senior Taylor Williams is expected to take over the number one spot in the lineup.   "This hard-working four year starter is well-suited for the top spot, being a NCHSAA regional semifinalist and a fierce competitor.   She has a 29-6 record over the last two seasons and is seeking to be the next star atop another powerful Lady Rams' lineup.   She has also previously won the Greene Central High School Scholar Athlete of the Year award and will be vying for valedictorian," said Medlin.

"Junior Madison Holloman will arguably be the best athlete on the team and could break out in 2017 after two seasons of building.   Playing #5 last year, Holloman posted a 14-3 record and was the Doubles Player of the Year for the team," said Coach Medlin.

"Hinson Britt is a promising freshman stepping up to varsity tennis after a solid middle school experience and will battle for a spot in an experienced lineup.   With an athletic frame, and power off both wings, Britt has plenty of potential, and it will be interesting to see how well she adapts to the hard work required to be a Lady Ram," said Medlin.

Coach Medlin concluded, "Seniors Taylor Hill and Madison Tingen are set to conclude solid careers with the Lady Rams, having worked their way up through tough lineups each year.   Last year, Hill posted the team's best winning percentage.  Tingen won the team's Most Improved Player award and advanced to states in doubles."
