Lady Crusaders Return Top Five

08/14/2016 20:13

Cardinal Gibbons High School, coached by Andrew Tuttle, returns its top five starters from the 2015 squad that lost in the 4-A quarterfinals to eventual champion Panther Creek High School.   The Lady Crusaders finished 23-2 last season.

State doubles finalists Lizzie Galush and Jenna Knors will lead the way again this season.  State doubles semifinalist Caroline Igo, and regional singles qualifiers Kate Freed and Karly Fitzgerald return to the lineup.  Freshman Karen Galush will take the remaining spot in the top six.

Cardinal Gibbons has fifteen varsity and fifteen junior varsity players on its two teams this season.   Construction is still going on at the school courts, so practices will be at various sites throughout the area until that is completed.   There are eleven returnees on this year's varsity squad.

Coach Tuttle hopes the team will defend its PAC-6 Conference title from last year, but expects stiff competition from East Chapel Hill.   On the state level, the Lady Crusaders hope to challenge three-time defending 4-A state champion Panther Creek High School.
