Tennis Tidbits November 2011


*David Fleischer is the new women's tennis coach at Jacksonville High School.

*Todd Davis will be the new women's tennis coach at St. Stephens High School this fall.   This will be his second stint at the helm of the program.  He coached the team for eight years through the 2005 season.

*Laura Van Veen is the new women's tennis coach at Ardrey Kell High School.

*Jeffrey Walter of Gray Stone Day School has agreed to serve as the NCHSTCA conference representative for the Yadkin Valley Conference this fall.

*Tina Carter is the new women's tennis coach at West Stanly High School.

*The Durham Academy Invitational Tournament has one opening left for its event August 18-19.   Each team will play three matches at the Duke University courts.   Interested coaches should contact Andy Pogach at Durham Academy for more information.   Contact information is in our Open Dates section on this web site.

*South Central High School women's tennis coach Sharon Collins has agreed to serve as the NCHSTCA conference representative for the Coastal 3-A Conference this fall.

*Cedar Ridge High School head coach Eric Rodgman just returned from a nine-day trip to Haiti where he was part of a mission team (Family Heath Ministries) teaching Vacation Bible School to children ages 5-12 around the Blanchard Community Church near Port-au-Prince.   WRAL-TV will be airing a three-part series about this trip, beginning on July 27th at 5:00 p.m.  


*Rachel Broadbent will be the new men's and women's tennis coach at Fuquay-Varina High School.

*Beth Hedgepeth of Green Hope High School has agreed to serve as the NCHSTCA conference representative for the Tri-9 4-A Conference.

*Lynette Worthington, the new women's tennis coach at Riverside-Martin High School,  has agreed to serve as the NCHSTCA conference representative for the Four Rivers 1-A Conference.

*Michael Thomson won the Most Improved Player award for the 2011 Patton High School men's tennis team.

*Joe Scism is the new women's tennis coach at Crest High School.

*Drayton Williams won the Coach's Award for the 2011 Wilson Fike men's tennis team.

*Senior Eric Simmons and freshman Robbie Taylor won the Most Valuable Player awards for the 2011 Greene Central High School men's tennis team.

*Hap Core of East Mecklenburg High School won the 1975 men's tennis singles state championship.

*Robbie Bean is the new men's and women's tennis coach at High Point Central High School.

*David Hunt will be the new women's tennis coach at Albemarle High School.

*Lindsay Deibler will be the new men's tennis coach at West Forsyth High School.

*Jeff Everhart will be the new men's tennis coach at North Davidson High School.

*Matthew Dwinell won the Senior Team Leadership award for the 2011 Cedar Ridge High School men's tennis team.

*Rebecca Crotts will be the new women's tennis coach at North Davidson High School.

*Karen Duncan is the new women's tennis coach at West Forsyth High School.   She is the mother of Kayla Duncan, a current member of the Wake Forest University tennis team who starred at Winston-Salem R.J. Reynolds and Statesville Christian while in high school.

*Ian Butts won the Most Valuable Player award for the 2011 Durham Riverside High School men's tennis team.

*Dustin Weaver of Lincolnton High School has agreed to serve as the NCHSTCA conference representative for the Southern Piedmont 2-A Conference.

*Beth Best is the new women's tennis coach at Clinton High School.

*Catherine Lassiter has been named the women's tennis coach at Bishop-McGuinness High School.

*Alex Macauley will be the new men's and women's tennis coach at Durham Riverside High School.

*Christi Bruinsma will be returning for her second season as the head women's tennis coach at Cox Mill High School.

*Dewayne Morgan won the Sportsmanship Award for the 2011 West Columbus High School men's tennis team.

*Daniel Key won the Coach's Award for the 2011 Rockingham County High School men's tennis team.

*Ken Neese of Monroe Central Academy has agreed to serve as the Rocky River Conference 1-A representative for this fall.

*Eric Lagueruela won the Most Valuable Player award for the 2011 Wheatmore High School men's tennis team.
